What is the Innovator Founder Visa?

The Innovator Founder Visa allows experienced entrepreneurs to establish and run a business in the UK based on a unique and growth-oriented idea. Unlike older routes, you do not need a minimum investment fund to apply.

Who is eligible for this visa?

To qualify, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have an endorsement letter from an approved UK endorsing body
• Play a key role in the day-to-day management of your business
• Meet the English language requirement (minimum CEFR B2 / IELTS 5.5 in all components)
• Show proof of maintenance funds (£1,270 held for 28 consecutive days if applying from outside the UK)

What makes a business idea eligible?

Your business idea must meet three key criteria:

• Innovation – A genuine, original idea that stands out in the market
• Viability – Realistic and achievable with strong growth potential
• Scalability – Ability to expand, create jobs, and enter national or international markets

You cannot apply with a business that is already trading unless you have significantly contributed to its innovation.

What is an endorsement and why is it important?

An endorsement is an approval from a Home Office-authorised body confirming your business idea meets the required standards. Your endorsement letter must:

• Be issued within 3 months before your visa application
• Confirm your business meets innovation, viability, and scalability criteria

Approved Endorsing Bodies include:

• Envestors Limited
• UK Endorsement Services
• Innovator International
• Global Entrepreneurs Programme (GEP)

What are Contact Point Meetings?

You must attend at least two mandatory meetings with your endorsing body during your visa period. These sessions:

• Track your business progress
• Provide guidance and support
• Ensure compliance with visa conditions

Missing these meetings may result in visa cancellation.

Can I work outside my business?

Yes. You can take additional skilled work alongside running your business, provided:

• The job is at RQF Level 3 or above
• It is on the eligible skilled occupation list

You cannot work as a professional sportsperson.

Outside the UK: ~3 weeks
Inside the UK: ~8 weeks

Duration of Stay

You will be granted a visa for up to 3 years.
